The final outcome of my home kit is the redecorating kit of destroyed parts which is called “Who did this?”. I got the initial idea from damaged parts that my rabbit created. I thought several ideas on how to prevent my rabbit to stop chewing wall papers or furniture.

Through the tutorial I had with the lecturer, I got many sources that I can look through to expand my ideas. Among those many sources, I found a source with arts by animals and there were different wall papers made by rats and a lamp made by skin of a snake. When I looked through that source, I thought what if the damaged part can be an art?
From that, I changed my thought from preventing the damaging to make the damaged part beautiful so people won’t need to hide that part. I started to think about what things can usable to decorate on walls or furniture. Somehow, I thought about the childhood and that made me think about using stickers and paints to decorate all over the wall. However, I wanted this to be more specific which means if there is no theme on my kit, then there will be too many options I can choose for products I can have for my kit. I wanted that to be specific at certain topic so I focused on guessing who made this mess. I thought about the research I have done for my home kit previously. It was the research of knowing the mood of rabbits. I applied that research on my kit to make it more believable kit. I divided into three sections which are who, how, and why.

For the who section, I thought it would be great to use stamp of animal foot prints and let people to guess through the foot print about who did this. For the how section, I used several words that can describe breaking stuff so people can guess how the animal broke this part through the words that describe the breaking something. I decided to use stickers for this part because I thought it would be easier to show different words through stickers. For the why section, I applied my research that tells why an animal breaks stuff and through that people can assume the mood and the feeling that animal had while they destroyed that part. For this part, I used tapes to show that feeling in sentences.
While I worked on making the stamp, stickers, and tapes, I just added more animals.
Initially I had rabbit kit because I have a rabbit as my pet and I thought it would be nice to have a kit of cats, dogs, and ducks too. However, during the tutorial I thought it won’t be necessary to add ducks because it is not a pet that can be seen easily around us. Other animals like dogs and cats are common pets that can be easily seen in our daily life. I thought having a kit of those pets can help people to access on my kit because if feels more friendly to them.
And yes, I added cats and dogs too for my kit. Now, I have three different animals. From the tutorial, I got an advice on keeping consistency of colours and lay outs. For the colours, I selected three colours for each animal kit. For the rabbit one, I used pink, orange, and dark blue. For the cat pack, I used bright green, yellow, and orange. For the dog pack, I used purple, turquoise, and dark blue.
Using three main colours for my kit helped me to keep the consistency so those kits with different animals looked like a product from the same brand.
The next thing I did was making mock ups for stamps, stickers, and tapes. Before that, we had the session about making 3d mock up so I just followed the process. I used illustrator to make whole mock ups. The tricky one was tapes. I haven’t really tried to put on patterns on rounded shape so I just tried out making 3d on illustrator and it worked out quite well. However, the tape with texts and illustrations together couldn’t be done with this method so I just made it like 3d with gradation on the top of 3d tape shape. I felt it would be better if I am more familiar with this 3d mock up to make the mock up that has more reality.
The other special thing I did was the printing. I was able to access to the printing shop so I tried out on printing those stickers and tapes. I just followed the direction from the internet for the printing and it worked out pretty okay. The one problem was that papers kept curling. I curled it in different direction to make it less curled but didn’t really worked out well so I tried to use the tapes to make it look flat and it was better than curling in opposite direction.

For the package, I initially thought of a random box which is a box contains random things. In a box, there will be different animals’ stamps, stickers, and tapes but people wouldn’t know which animal that would be. The second idea for my package was individual packaging for different animals. I found that individual packaging will be better than random objects in a box so I decided to use the individual packaging.
At first, I thought of using a long box that can be stand and I changed that into a drawer box using animal shaped die cut vertically in the middle of the box. Inside of the drawer box, it divided into three sections so each section can represent who, how, and why. After the session about publishing and printing, I tried out in a different shape too, which was using embossing technique to spots that had die cut. Also, I wrote the product name on the side of the box which is the grip part because I thought it will be too much if I add it at the top of the box. With the embossing technique, and the name on the side, it felt more neat and finished.

The next thing I did was thinking about the instruction sheet. I also had several options on my instruction sheet. First option was having the instruction like cards so it can be top of each product which is divided into three. The other option I had was having on instruction page on the top of everything but in the middle, it is animal shapes die cut so people can look through the product inside. I chose the second option for my instruction because it felt more neat and it has that consistency because it follow the similar method with the box cover.

After that, I thought about the layout of instruction sheet. Initially, I wrote the text in zig zag and I tried on putting on to the side. I thought maybe I can break that in to the title and the context so I just put the title on left side and the context on the right side. It looked okay because of the balance between them.
For the display of products and packages, I just added sentences vertically. Those sentences I included is the same sentence that is on the instruction sheet. I thought it would be better than just showing product because if I just show the product and there is no description about it, I wouldn’t know what this product is about. I wrote in vertical because it fits to overall mood of my kit. I tried to show the consistency from displaying to products inside.

For the video, I used printed stickers and tapes. For the stamp, I attached a piece of box to the eraser and coloured with acrylic colours. I had two main words which are pick! and decorate! I used repetition of those words to make it easy to understand and easy to memorise. For the back ground music, I used bright music so it can fit to the overall mood of my kit. I didn’t really satisfy with the video because I wanted to have more professional look but it felt more like homemade video.
Overall, it was mess because it was the first semester in Inti and I didn’t know what is the right thing to do but it was quite fun to do this project. Even though I couldn’t have the perfect outcome but at the same time, it felt good that I have finished this project with the things I have learned.
