I have come up with several ideas for placard project. First idea is about Fukushima radioactive water release into the ocean. Japan declared that they will release radioactive water they used to cool down nuclear power into the ocean within 2 years. The US is supporting Japan for giving clear information about radioactive water but countries around Japan such as China and Korea are strongly disagree with Japan's plan. Environmental organizations like Greenpeace is also against with Japan that this plan can ruin the ocean creatures and human itself. I am on the against side of Japan's plan. As one of the citizen who live in Korea, Japan's action will effect a lot on the ocean and it may lead to the situation that we cannot eat fishes in the near future.
The second idea is about gender conflict. There are three big causes on this conflict. First was about the woman who has been murdered around Gangnam station and the offender killed her because he did not like woman. The second cause was the novel Kim Ji-Yeong, 1982, which talks about gender inequality in Korean society. The third cause was MeToo movement. Many women shared their stories about sexual harassment in their daily life. Through those big causes, opinions of men and women has been split. Women said that this is about us getting discrimination in the society and men said this is misandry and reversed discrimination. Those conflict is on-going on online and in daily life.
The third idea is about domestic violence especially on child abusing. There were a huge case where parents killed their 16 month adapted baby by beating constantly. People got angry about parents and authorities who could not take care of that baby. They shared their grief on social media by using #SorryJeongin. This case made people to take more attention about child abusing and the laws about child abusing.
The last idea is housing issue. People cannot afford the house because of the prices. The government is taking the action on this but it makes the price higher and showed no improvement. This lead to decline rate of the marriage and the child birth which can lead to population decline. Even though people work forever for their whole life, people will not be able to buy an apartment in Seoul.
I decided to focus more on the first and the last topic. I will do more research about those two and will think about slogans and how to express visually.
